Rita's moto: If this day was not your friend, it was your teacher!

Ruta was born in Riga, Latvia, but four years of her childhood were spent in Africa where her father was invited to give lectures at several universities. Since that time, Ruta really enjoys travelling.

During the pandemic she more than ever unknowledged that first-of-all she is a wife and mother of three children - 24 year old daughter, 18 year old son and 7 year old daughter, and only then she is a trade mark attorney.

Her professional life is linked with the intellectual property field for more than 20 years. She advises Latvian and foreign clients on protection and defence of IP rights. Her main activities include filing trademark applications, handling oppositions and appeals before the Latvian Patent Office and EUIPO, IPR infringement cases, seizure of counterfeit goods by customs or the police and litigation in Courts in all instances.

Since 2014 Ruta has her own private practice and holds a position of associated partner of METIDA in Latvia.

She is an active member of several professional organizations, including ECTA, AIPPI Latvian Group and Latvian Patent attorney Association, where she helds leading positions. Ruta was ECTA President as of 2016 until 2018. On 2016 Managing Intellectual Property included her in the TOP 250 list of the world's most important women in the field of intellectual property.

She likes spending time with her family, gardening, travelling, and spending time with friends. She very much looks forward to start travelling and networking with colleagues and friends in-person once again and attending real live cultural events.
