Today Shannon is joined by Jo Wilson, from Jo Wilson Design. You might recognize Jo’s work from the beautifully designed, and illustrations from The Thrive Factor Book! After 20+ years of working for various design studios crossing the globe from South Africa to England and across to Australia, I decided to branch out and start my own business. My focus is offering personal quality creative design to help small business owners bring their big dreams to life. What makes my heart light up is creating branding and visuals for businesses that create work that matters and change people’s lives.
Jo is so much more than a logo designer – she’s excited by styling a brand so is personal, beautiful and unique. Shannon chats with Jo about what a visual brand is drilling in deep plucking out the essential ideas and elements of their business and translating it into a beautiful, visual brand.
Shannon and Jo talk about the frustrations of graphic design and the rise of DIY branding with tools and apps like Canva.
Jo shares her main frustration is inconsistency with switching up visuals in tools like Canva, rather than the consistency being built into a brand when working with a Graphic Designer. You’ll also get to hear the best tips on preparing to work with a Graphic Designer, and making the most of the experience and clues that it’s time to bring on a Designer like feeling embarrassed or ashamed to share business cards or refer people to your website.
