LM1198 The Fish Fry

LM, Episode 1198, 3/31/23, The Fish Fry

Last time I visited Mom, she wanted to go to the VFW for their Friday night fish fry at 4.30 in the afternoon.  I never eat before noon or 1 pm and Twyla and I usually have supper around 7, so 4.30 is either a bit early or late for me to eat a meal.

We’re meeting my brother, Michael, and his wife, Ruth.  Ruth tells us to be there at 4.15 and, because we’re all scared of Ruth, Mom and I are there at 3.55.  The good news is we got a hell of a parking spot.

I ask the guy selling tickets if I get a free AARP membership for eating so early.  He says, “I don’t know, I’ll have to ask the guy in charge.”

Being from Missouri, Mom was disappointed they didn’t have catfish, but she did enjoy the fried shrimp.  It was a good thing we went so early because by 5 the place was packed.

It’s put on by the Knights of Columbus, so they sold beer and raffle tickets. When Micheal was buying his raffle tickets, the guy says, “If you can’t stay for the 7.45 drawing, we’ll call you if you win”, which is good because, when you eat at 4.30, it’s hard to stay up past 7.

As we’re leaving, the guy selling tickets tells me they don’t have any affiliation with AARP.  It seems like a missed opportunity.

Have a great weekend and always remember laughter matters.
