E07.5 Frozen Mini

July 01, 2019 05:00 - 8 minutes - 7.84 MB

This week we fix some errors we made last week while talking about Frozen including finally getting the correct name for Jesse St James' vocal group, because we know you have been waiting anxiously.

E07 Frozen

June 24, 2019 05:00 - 1 hour - 69.3 MB

No surprise, this week we have a lot of thoughts about Disney’s 2013 movie Frozen. Mostly, what’s the point of Olaf, Did Rapunzel and Eugene really attend Elsa’s coronation, and are the trolls kidnappers?

E06.5 The Lego Movie Mini

June 17, 2019 05:00 - 9 minutes - 8.75 MB

This week I'm fixing some mistakes from our The Lego Movie episode from last week and going into details on Marvel vs DC.

E06 The Lego Movie

June 10, 2019 05:00 - 1 hour - 74.2 MB

This week we'll talk about The Lego Movie which may have had more of an impact on the way we parent than we give it credit for.

E05.5 The Incredibles Mini

June 03, 2019 05:00 - 35 minutes - 32.8 MB

So, we have to talk about Kevin. As in, Kevin the weird bird from Pixar’s Up. Kevin is a key component to the Grand Unifying Theory of Pixar Movies, and as such, he’s one of the stars of this very special minisode. This week, both Briar and Sara are here, and we’re talking about that bird, Steve Jobs, and Luxo the lamp (who we mistakenly refer to as Lumo).

Memorial Day Note

May 27, 2019 05:00 - 1 minute - 1.77 MB

Just a quick message to say there wont be a new episode this week, we're spending time with our families, but come back next week for the Incredibles Mini Episode.

E05 The Incredibles

May 20, 2019 05:00 - 1 hour - 56 MB

In this week’s episode, we take a look at 2004’s The Incredibles. Winner of two Academy Awards (Best Animated Feature and Best Sound Editing), this film was Pixar’s superhero opus. We talk about how this movie prompted changes in the original Fantastic Four, and the parallels between this film and several others. As Pixar’s first PG movie, we also talk about all of the violence, and how bad guys actually die on screen. This feels noteworthy to us, and signals a change in our tolerance for ...

E04.5 Happy Feet Mini

May 13, 2019 05:00 - 8 minutes - 7.84 MB

This week we fix a few mistakes we made last week and also talk a bit about what it means to be “uncredited”.

E04 Happy Feet

May 06, 2019 05:00 - 50 minutes - 46.3 MB

We cannot tell a lie...we are not fans of this one. This week, we complain about our least favorite movie to date: the absolute WTFery that is Happy Feet. A movie with realistic animated penguins (maybe too realistic), and a “big message” about conservation. We drop a lot of f-bombs but who can blame us with a film that is so full of racism, sexism, and weird covert sexual undertones? It’s possible that 2006 was a simpler time, but even so, this movie has some issues.

E03.5 Sing Mini

April 29, 2019 05:00 - 11 minutes - 10.3 MB

In this week’s mini episode, along with fixing our mistakes from last episode we’ll discuss the big pop culture events this weekend, no spoilers here, and ask “When is it a good time to introduce kids to the MCU?”

E03 Sing

April 22, 2019 05:00 - 1 hour - 63.7 MB

This week’s movie is one we love. From a giant cast full of actors we like, to a soundtrack we don’t actually mind listening to in the car, there’s a lot to appreciate here. We talk about the many feats of engineering, what true punk actually is, and how masterful the story is overall. Since we’re new, now is the time to show us and the algorithms that what we’re doing means something to you. Be sure to like us on your favorite social media channels, and tell your friends to listen. We would...

E02.5 Beauty and the Beast Mini

April 15, 2019 05:00 - 9 minutes - 8.48 MB

In this week's mini episode we fix a bunch of stuff we got wrong last week. We'll discuss Gaston's egg consumption, Maurice's motivation in the animated film, and why we always get weird new songs in adaptations. Since we’re new, now is the time to show us and the algorithms that what we’re doing means something to you. Be sure to like us on your favorite social media channels, and tell your friends to listen. We would especially appreciate any iTunes reviews you want to leave us. A Quick...

E02 Beauty and the Beast

April 08, 2019 14:18 - 1 hour - 59.6 MB

This week on the show, we’re taking a look at the live action version of Beauty and the Beast. And uh, spoilers, but...we kinda hated it. This is a hard thing to reconcile for two Millenials who grew up loving the original animated version. But alas, there was a lot we didn’t love about this movie. We talk about the differences between the live action and animated version at length, plus we discuss what becomes unintentionally more real by virtue of being live action. We also dig into the ...

E01.5 Tangled Mini

April 01, 2019 16:55 - 21 minutes - 20 MB

This week on Latchkey Movies, we fix all the crap we got wrong the last time. We’re never going to get everything right, but we like to be as precise as possible. Did we commit the most egregious of errors? Please (politely) let us know. This week, we talk about how much money Tangled actually made, the Golden Age of Disney and the Stabbington brothers. Since we’re new, now is the time to show us and the algorithms that what we’re doing means something to you. Be sure to like us on your ...

E01 Tangled

April 01, 2019 15:05 - 1 hour - 58 MB
