Born in 1861, Ishi was the last known member of the Native American Yahi people from the present-day state of California. If you recognize his name or story, it may be credited to Ishi: The Last Yahi, a 1993 documentary film that worked to educate the public about California’s relationship with Native Americans. KVMR News Director Cláudio Mendonça spoke with Jed Reif, the film’s director, to learn more.
On Wednesday, August 23rd, the Nevada Theater will hold a special screening of the documentary.
