In the US most outlets define a mass shooting as any shooting with 3 or more injuries/fatalities. For that, the United States has had the most mass shootings of any country. In a 2016 study published by criminologist Adam Lankford, it was estimated that 31% of all public mass shooters from 1966 to 2012 attacked in the United States, although the U.S. had less than 5% of the world's population.
