How Would You Recognize Tyranny?

I was talking to a guy and he was saying the reason that he has firearms is to protect himself from a tyrannical government. After he left, I thought to myself, would you even recognize an oppressive, authoritarian, government and what level of tyranny are you willing to put up with before you use these weapons? Is there a definite line or, as long as it is done slowly enough, there is no line to notice? I have questions but no answers. What say you? Where do you draw the line between good government and tyranny? Does it matter who is in charge of the government? Would the leader be able to change your mind about tyranny? I ask this because as I live my life I find that most people are ok with tyranny as long as it is the kind they support. So ask yourself, am I ok with an authoritarian government as long as I voted for the people there.
