Kids, what are we watching tonight?

241 episodes - English - Latest episode: over 2 years ago -

A father and two daughters review films together, and that's when the arguing starts. Usually its me (Dad) trying to get the girls to watch (what I consider) classic films from the 70's, 80's and 90's, but we love all movies, so we cover loads of stuff, new and old. Like you, we want to be entertained, and my hope is that, not only do we entertain you, but the films I pick entertain the girls as well....or I never hear the end of it. Join us as I try to educate them, and they try to stop me forcing 'rubbish old films' on them. Find all our social media and main podcast platforms here - https://linktr.ee/kwawwtpodcast

The Kids discuss and rate the 12 Disney Princesses.

March 15, 2021 10:00 - 33 minutes - 22.9 MB

At the end of our previous episode on Raya and the Last Dragon, the kids told me a few home truths about some Disney characters, their ages and their status within the Disney-verse.  They really wanted to talk about the Disney Princesses some more, and I encourage that, so here is Isla (Beanz) and Nieve (Beans) discussing and ranking all 12. They hope you enjoy their list., and let them know if you agree or disagree through our Twitter and Instagram pages. Support the show

We're watching Raya and the last Dragon (Spoilers)

March 11, 2021 10:00 - 46 minutes - 32.1 MB

The second movie to be made available on Disney+ Premiere (for a price), and the third big Disney movie to come straight to the streaming service due to Covid, however it wouldn't be a Disney movie without some controversy, so we discuss the Dragon problem and the critical response to the cast (who are amazing). Controversy aside, we look at the CGI, the cultural aspects, more importantly the Martial Arts and Disney's first proper fist fight (Princess John Wick?).  Then we talk Himbo's, th...

We're watching the greatest action movie EVER - ALIENS

March 08, 2021 08:00 - 38 minutes - 26.1 MB

Not only is Aliens the greatest action movie ever, the most quotable action movie ever, the best paced action story every.....it is also the reason why this very podcast exists. I sit down with eldest and discuss why this is so good, and get her (brutally honest) feedback on why it's maybe not as good as I thought. Support the show

Series review and final episode of Wandavision (SPOILERS)

March 05, 2021 11:00 - 25 minutes - 17.4 MB

IT'S HERE!! A week earlier then I expected - I thought for some reason there was 10 episodes instead of 9, so we do a pre-show podcast to discuss the series, and what we think will happen, then the post watch review. Who is the big cameo?  Is White Vision actually Ultron?  Who wins - Agatha or Wanda, and what does it cost? More importantly....what will we do next Friday?? We hope you enjoy our Season Finale discussion. Support the show

We're discussing The Village

March 03, 2021 10:00 - 38 minutes - 26.7 MB

If you had asked me, coming out of the cinema in 2004, what I thought of M Night Shyamalan's The Village, I would have told you it sucked.  The film I got was not the film I thought I was going to see, and yes, I was sucked in by the hype at the time. However Nieve wanted to watch this, it's just turned up on Disney+ Star, and as my friend says "you should re-watch movies at different parts of your life so you can see how your experiences have changed them".  I made her watch the trailer a...

Daddy quickly reviews Free Fire

March 02, 2021 12:00 - 10 minutes - 7.02 MB

What happens when a gun sale goes wrong?  What happens when its a black comedy? Free Fire is what happens.  Quality dialogue, bad fashion, great acting, and while it may have a few similarities to Reservoir Dogs, is it as good as QT's first film outing? Listen in and find out. Support the show

We're discussing Crawl

March 01, 2021 11:00 - 38 minutes - 26.4 MB

Is it a monster movie?  Is it a disaster horror film?  Is it a disaster horror monster movie? Eldest brings her significant knowledge to bear, gained from Sir David Attenborough's nature documentaries, as we watch the story of a Father and Daughter, trapped in their house during a hurricane, and surrounded by Alligators. We're discussing Wandavision Ep 8 (Spoilers)

February 26, 2021 13:00 - 33 minutes - 23.2 MB

We were up early again to watch Wandavision, then straight into podcast mode.  This week we're SOOOOO excited Isla nearly passed out.  We are literally spewing Wandavision excitement onto the microphone in the hopes of getting a cohesive episode for your enjoyment. There were tears.  Suspense. Excitement.  The episode was called "Previously on..." but should have been called RIGHT IN THE FEELS!!.  But such a good episode. SPOILERS in side, but come listen and hear our thought (like Wanda ...

Daddy discusses Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel (no spoilers)

February 24, 2021 13:00 - 22 minutes - 15.7 MB

Do you remember Elisa Lam?   Maybe you do maybe you don't.  Your more likely to remember the weird, YouTube, CCTV video, of a girl going into an elevator that doesn't move.  She leaves the elevator, waves her hands, then re-enters, then leaves and disappears for ever. True Crime : Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel tells the story of Elisa  and explains what happened to her via the history of the hotel, the internet sleuths that tried to help, the staff who worked at and ran the hotel, and the ...

We're watching Speed (1994)

February 22, 2021 08:00 - 38 minutes - 26.1 MB

Keanu proved he had action chops to everyone except my daughters  in Point Break, but here he proved he was an action hero, and a box office star, along with Sandra Bullock.  While it wasn't hard convincing youngest daughter to watch a Keanu movie, it took a bit of work due to its pre-Matrix release ("the 90's was SOOOOO long ago Dad!!" - thanks sweet pea) and the premise that a bomb on a bus could be exciting. Having not seen it in years...nay DECADES, I forgot just HOW good Speed is. Bu...

EPISODE 100 - Jurassic Park vs Jurassic World

February 19, 2021 18:00 - 56 minutes - 38.7 MB

For this episode I thought it would be fun to compare a film from my teenage years, with one from the kids.  OK, I was 17 when Jurassic Park came out, and Isla was 10 when World was released, but which is better. The special effects in Park (1993) were ground breaking.  Not since Terminator 2 (1991) had there been such a buzz about visual effects.  But 22 years later do they still hold up?.  As a film is it does it still have action, adventure and tension?  Have Laura Dern, Sam Neill and J...

February 15, 2021 10:00 - 20 minutes - 14.2 MB

Its the first KOREAN Space Sci-fi blockbuster.  No Zombies.  No Horror.  SPACE SCI-FI.  Sounds weird, and it is a bit weird, but it was worth the wait. Director Jo Sung-hee  has made a baggage free space movie that's just a joy to watch, and thanks to some AMAZING special effects courtesy of Dexter Studios, its total eye candy too - colourful, a bit anime, and very cool. Listen to me embarrass myself while gushing with love for this movie - its well worth a watch, and I wont ruin it for y...

So due to some real life issues involving a new cooker being delivered, we watched Wandavision a bit later today, so the podcast is a bit later. BUT we still race headlong with no thought into this episode, discussing last weeks big character reveal, how they impact the new 'show', the lies that are told and the life's that are destroyed.  Where did all the kids come from?  How are they doing this?  What happens when you try to escape? Maybe we ask these questions, maybe we answer them, b...

We're watching Zombieland

February 10, 2021 09:00 - 23 minutes - 16.2 MB

The zombie genre has always been fertile ground for both comedy and  horror movies, but somehow this managed to be the best of both.  It treads a fine line between being slightly too funny to be serious, then being just serious enough to not be comedic. It has everything you want in a Zombie, road movie, romantic comedy bromance.  Gore, jokes, Zombie Strippers are all packed into sugary sweet goodness, kinda like a twinky!! We're watching Death Race

February 08, 2021 09:00 - 28 minutes - 19.7 MB

Have you ever completely forgotten about a film, then find it and get really excited for watching it again?  That was us with Death Race. In our house, we are MASSIVE Jason Statham fans.  We've probably watched all his stuff, including the dodgy music video he did for The Shamen (Comin on - go look it up), and he has a lot of stuff to watch - Lock, stock & 2 smoking barrels, Crank, Transporter, Fast 7 and Gnomeo & Juliet. This is something special though.  In the same year Batman flipped ...

MASSIVE SPOILERS - Wandavision Ep5

February 05, 2021 11:00 - 19 minutes - 13.4 MB

It's Friday again, which mean I kick my kids out of bed early to watch TV, and this week it's a HUMDINGER!!!!! Admittedly we're excited, sleep deprived, haven't had breakfast or coffee yet, so it's us just spewing forth our thoughts with no regard for continuity or credible reason. This week the people outside the dome are trying to interact with the people inside, but there's also trouble brewing inside the dome.  What has Wanda done? What will Vison do? How did (redacted character name)...

2021 Alphabet Challenge - R is for Rampage

February 03, 2021 14:00 - 21 minutes - 15 MB

It's kind of apt that with Godzilla vs Kong coming in March, Isla would pick an action movie with more big, dumb animals. Rampage, for me, will always be the arcade/C64 video game from the 80's.  A simple idea about 3 giant monsters - a gorilla, a werewolf and a lizard (none of which infringed any copyright by looking like any other giant creatures), but for my kids it will now forever be a CGI spectacle of destruction and battles to the death. OH, and a flying wolf!! Enjoy our review of...

2021 Alphabet Challenge - U is for The Usual Suspects

February 01, 2021 08:00 - 27 minutes - 18.6 MB

In 1995 neither Christopher McQuarrie or Bryan Singer were big names, but The Usual Suspects changed that over night.  One would set up the X-men universe and give us the Queen biopic that had been sitting in development hell for years.   The other would write some of the best action scripts around (and coming soon), then steer the monster that is the latter Mission Impossible films. But its the ending that keeps people returning to this classic (despite/because of Kevin Spacey's fall from...

We're discussing Wandavision ep4 (and Avengers Infinity War/Endgame)

January 29, 2021 20:00 - 22 minutes - 15.2 MB

SPOILERS For a quick review of a 30 minute TV show we go into great depth this week.  What did Tony Stark wish for at the end of Endgame, and how would the wording of the wish matter?  Is Darcy Lewis awesome or (CAPS LOCK)AWESOME!!!! However a good few minutes is spent discussing Visions willy.  Yup.  The details of the Joss Whedon story about Vision and his tiny vision for age of Ultron, and what it should look like and how it would work. We're childish - its fine.  Enjoy Support the show

Finally, the chance to share some 80's love for the legend that is John Hughes with my kids.  The music.  The style.  The emotions of friendship, preparing for college, giving your eyes to Stevie Wonder, an uncertain future, and the question of how to get the mileage down on a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California are all in here.   As awesome as this film is to me (Dad), and its place in time and my memories, does it still affect the 'youth' of today.  With the like of Riverdale, 13 Reasons Why ...

We're watching Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

January 22, 2021 17:00 - 24 minutes - 16.9 MB

The continuation of the alphabet challenge, and Nieve absolutely stumped us with the description of this movie.  I could not think of a movie, starting with J, starring The Rock and ultimate Ebenezer Scrooge, Michael Cain. This was a real surprise, but was it a pleasant one?  An island that rises from, and falls into, the ocean every 140 years, only found through the works of Jules Verne, and no one questions that it's real.  And why is it that all "secret" islands are surrounded by storms...

Wandavision Ep3 - SPOILERS

January 22, 2021 11:00 - 13 minutes - 9.19 MB

Got the kids up early AGAIN to watch the new episode of Wandavision.  Once again more questions then answers, but we were so excited, and Isla was sure she saw something that we, once again, charged ahead and recorded a podcast that, in hindsight, actually has no bearing at all on what's happening in the show. Regularly voted one, if not THE, top comedy movies of ALL TIME, but as amazingly good as it is, does it still cut the mustard 40 years after its release? I have fond memories of this, and all of Monty Pythons work, though, for me, The Holy Grail is a better film.  However I felt the kids would relate to this, or get the idea of the film a lot easier then  Grail....and its The Life of Brian - what could go wrong?
