Sure do. Early morning shows, like Good Morning America, usually cover national news stories, lifestyle tips and entertainment news.

I see. What about late night talk shows? Are they more comedy-focused?

They sure are. Shows like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert start with a monologue that jokes about current events and politics, followed by celebrity guests.

Yes. I've seen some of those. The celebrity segments are super fun.

A brief history of the TV Talk Show

电视脱口秀简史

Television talk shows have been around since the dawn of the medium, crossing over so many shows from its origins on the radio. Thus, the start of talk shows' golden age can be considered in 1948, even though the television wasn't common in American homes until the 1950s.

电视脱口秀自电视诞生之时便已出现，最初是以电台形式呈现，到现在已经混合了多种节目形式。如此说来，虽然到20世纪50年代，电视才在许多美国家庭普及开来，但是脱口秀的黄金时代应该要从1948年算起。

There are several types of talk shows. What we're most used to is the informal guest-host format, in which the show's host welcomes celebrities or other talk-worthy individuals in what is perceived as an informal discussion. The second most common format is the public affairs show, in which a host (or hosts) interview people in the news or experts in a given field. 

脱口秀形式众多。我们最常说的是非正式的主持嘉宾互动形式，节目主持人邀请名人嘉宾或者其他具有访谈价值的人士参与到非正式的讨论。第二种常见的形式是公共事务脱口秀，主持人采访人物或者某领域的专家。
