Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Nicholas Sapp grew up in the city’s Cascade neighborhood. He graduated from the University of Chicago with a major in Comparative Human Development. While on a leave of absence from his undergraduate studies, Nicholas’ interest in Student Affairs was sparked by the programming offered by Georgia State University’s Office of Black Student Achievement.

Currently, he spends his 4th year working at Emory University with the goal of providing similar programming opportunities to its student population. Outside of work, Nicholas is passionate about Black American street dances and is eagerly learning, competing, and teaching.

In this episode, Nicholas shares:

How he ended up attending one of the top universities in the United States (University of Chicago)

His thought process when deciding to which colleges to apply and ultimately which school to attend

Why he took a leave of absence from college, and how that time away helped him discover the students affairs career path

The importance of talking about how to succeed in college just as much as it is to discuss attending college

How taking a job just to “get your foot in the door” can be a path that leads to your desired job
