After King David committed adultery and murder he was found out by God through Nathan. We read his prayer of weighty contrition in Psalm chapter 51.

The one thing that stood out to me was what he said in verse 5, "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me." The part...."I was shapen," being the emphasis.

When he said "Behold," it carries with it strong emotion. In Strongs Concordance it means: To fix the attention upon an object; to see with attention; to direct or fix the mind.

And in the power of his shattered spirit he admits he was shaped by iniquity. Iniquity means, "the practice of sin" not just the sin itself.

Which seems to strongly suggest that there was something in him that was iniquitous within him for a long time. And it took occasion upon him and overthrew him.

There are many things, people and circumstances that have misshapen us that we are not really aware of. It may be dormant within us and yet God will reveal it sooner than later. He will do it to make you free forever from it. He "will uphold you with His free spirit."

“I had rather pass through seven years of the most wearisome pain, and the most languishing sickness, than I would ever again pass through the terrible discovery of the evil of sin."

~ Charles Spurgeon
