Today’s topic is an introduction to CBD oil and how it is helping my friends and family. It is always advisable for patients to consult their licensed health care provider prior to making any medication changes.

The Endocannabinoid System
The endocannabinoid system contains the largest number of receptors in the human body. It regulates almost all of the bodies’ functions and systems including the limbic system which control basic emotions (fear, pleasure, anger) and drives (hunger, sex, dominance, care of offspring), nervous system, immune system, digestive system, respiratory system, circulatory system and immune system. Endocannabinoid receptors, known as CB1 and CB2 receptors can be found throughout the body and are responsible for regulating signals to various cells and organs.

Endocannabinoid deficiency was a term coined by Dr. Ethan Russo in 2003. It is a condition in which the body does not naturally produce enough endocannabinoids to maintain homeostasis and biological balance within the body. It is believed that a significant portion or the population has endocannabinoid deficiency.

CBD Oil helps treat endocannabinoid deficiency by introducing needed cannabinoids into the body, which in turn bind to CB1 and CB2 receptors and bring the systems back into biological balance. Once CBD binds to receptors, signals are sent to various systems and cells throughout the body.

While the scientific community certainly needs to conduct further research into the power of CBD, the preliminary evidence that people have reported in recent years is enough to take notice.
