A Veterans Initiative: Rethinking Heroes Radio Programming

Rethinking Heroes Radio Programming The Problem - Veteran Suicide and Unpayable Medical Debt Not nearly enough Americans are aware of or are acting on the problems facing veterans. Veterans are committing suicide at a rate of 44 per day. It is estimated that as much as $6 billion in unpaid medical debt is owed by former service members through the VA system. If only people really understood the depth of the problem… The Solution - Public Broadcast Radio’s Educated Audiences A weekly morning drive-time public radio program called Rethinking Heroes has been launched this month, with award-winning radio host Cary Harrison at the helm. Broadcasting every Friday from famed KPFK 90.7 FM Los Angeles at 9-10 a.m. PST, 12-1 p.m. EDT, this compelling dig-deep program gives airing to positive approaches and creative thinking to vet issues. Be they veteran or civilian, corporations or charities, corporations or individuals, physicians or technologists, we spotlight the solutions they bring to the table. Thanks to this LA flagship station and Cary’s following in AM radio, Rethinking Heroes has access to a crosscontinent network of 300 AM and FM affiliates. KPFK having outreach to America’s 2nd largest market with a DMA of 14 million people. Broadcasts are also delivered via Spotify, iHeart Radio, iTunes, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Stitcher, Amazon Alexa, Tune-in, and Podcaster as well as cross-platform streaming video. The Campaign Rethinking Heroes Supports – Veteran Mission Possible Veteran Mission Possible is a campaign launched and manned by veterans and veteran advocates with the intention to build a coalition of enough likeminded individuals and organizations to, by sheer numbers if nothing else, persuade the VA to make available the vet med debt on its books for full and complete forgiveness. No hoops to jump through. No strings attached. This can be done. Not by raising money - by raising awareness. Campaign Director and Navy veteran Jerry Ashton, Founder of Let’s Rethink This and co-founder of the widely acclaimed 501(c)(3) charity RIP Medical Debt which so far has relieved five million Americans of over $7 billion in medical bills, intends to duplicate that success – this time for veterans. Through Jerry’s Public Benefit (“B”) Corp Let’s Rethink This and by using its unique Searchlight/Spotlight/Ignite formula, every approach will be made to see that positive stories about our heroes are out there, week after week. Partnering with Co-Producers, Associate Producers and Benefactors Each program will feature two Co-Producers whose funding makes the programming possible. Each is eligible to be interviewed for 7 to 9 minutes, presented during live airtime to unveil their remedies and their organizational and personal mission. Co-producers and their teams will work closely with radio host Cary Harrison to create 30-second commercials for AM stations - dedicated exclusively to the co-producer’s services, products, or charitable works. Commercials for the Co-Producer will air several times a day for 30 days from the original FM public radio airing. The value to this partner? Our educated and socially conscious listeners are 88% more likely to buy products and services from companies that support lifestyle & independent radio and which positive economic and social benefits to the community.
