These two chapters are characterised by dreams and demonstrates the all-knowing power of God as He is the one who provides Joseph with the interpretations.

Joseph is in jail and two servants of the king of Egypt (his chief butler and his chief baker) are thrown into the same jail where Joseph is. They both have dreams, which Joseph interprets. The dreams are fulfilled as indicated and the butler is restored to his position. He, however, doesn’t remember to tell the king about Joseph and another two full years pass while Joseph remains in prison.

In chapter 41, Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, has two dreams, which no-one can interpret. The chief butler then remembers Joseph, who is finally taken from prison and brought before Pharaoh. He interprets the dreams and is made second in command of Egypt. Seven years of plenty is then followed by 7 years of famine and all the countries come to Egypt to buy food.
