Day 252 Ezekiel 23 and 24

In chapter 23, the word of the LORD comes to Ezekiel in the form of an illustration of two women who have committed prostitution or whoredoms as the KJV calls it. The two women are Aholah the elder and Aholibah her sister and they represent Samaria (Israel) and Jerusalem (Judah) respectively. They’ve strayed from God, committing idolatry and engaging in corrupt practices with their neighbours Assyria, Babylon and Egypt. The Lord pronounces judgment upon them.

In chapter 24, the illustration continues with the parable of a boiling pot, filled with water and filled with the best part of the choicest animals from the flock and boiled until the bones are turned to mush. This is another warning of the punishment the people face for their vile behaviour. Ezekiel is also told that he is not to cry and weep and in the evening after he delivers the word to the people, his wife dies and he is not allowed to mourn. Finally, he prophesies the destruction of the temple and is told by the Lord that he will be a sign to the people so that they will know that the Lord is God.
