SUMMARY OF THE BIBLE
1st Samuel chapter 28 29 30 31

Chapter 28
Saul inquires of the witch of Endor for revelation She foretells his death, the death of his sons, and the defeat of Israel by the Philistines. And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel.
LESSON
willingness to obey is an important part of being receptive to God's voice: "Speak, LORD, for your servant hears." A servant hears with the intention of obeying what his master tells him.

Chapter 29
as soon as you are up early in the morning and have light, depart: David wanted to fight with the Philistines against Israel but God wouldn't let him. David's heart was in a bad place, but God didn't abandon him. We should praise God for the times when He keeps us from sinning as badly as we might want to.
LESSON
It is hard to come near to the brink of sin, and not to fall in. God inclined the princes of the Philistines to oppose David's being employed in the battle. Thus their dislike befriended him, when no friend could do him such a kindness.

Chapter 30
David finds the Amalekites having a big party. He attacks them and kills a bunch of them. Somehow, though, 400 of them manage to escape on some very speedy camels. David recovers everything all of the wives and children.
LESSON
We may can look back and say we didn't have to defeat any obstacles. We didn't have to go through turmoil, We didn't have as many trials that we had to endure. But for others of us we can look back at our lives and we can say that we had to fight, in other words, We had to overcome many obstacles.

Chapter 31
And the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons: Tragically, Saul's sons were affected in the judgment of God against their father Saul. The brave and worthy Jonathan died as we might expect him to – loyally fighting for his God, his country, and his father the king to the very end.
LESSON
Jesus Christ can set us free. This is the practical lesson of this present passage of Scripture, the truth that Jesus Christ sets the captives free. This is: The Defeat of the Amalekites by David: A Picture of Christ Setting the Captives (His Loved Ones)
