Chapter 1.
began as God guided and prepared Joshua for the work he was groomed to perform for the children of Israel. Moses was gone now, and God told Joshua that the LORD had given the land of Canaan to the children of Israel. They only had to go take it with courage and strength.

lesson
This book points to the importance of covenant obedience before, during, and after God fulfills his promises.

Chapter 2
Joshua sends spies to Jericho—They are received and concealed by Rahab—They promise to preserve Rahab and her. Joshua sends spies to Jericho—They are received and concealed by Rahab—They promise to preserve Rahab and her household. And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho.

Lesson
In judgment God was bringing salvation to Rahab and her family. As with Noah and the ark, Lot in Sodom, and the firstborn sons in the Passover, God was providing a way of salvation to those who would go with Noah and the ark, Lot in Sodom, and the firstborn sons in the Passover, God was providing a way of salvation to those who would go.

Chapter 3
Joshua leads Israel to the Jordan—The Lord cuts off the water of the Jordan; it stands up as a heap, and Israel passes over on dry ground. And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over. And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.

Lesson
The lesson is simply that the God we love and serve, the only true God, is often the God of the unlikely time! Let me explain what I mean. When the two spies returned from Jericho, Joshua received the news he had been waiting for: “And they said to Joshua, 'Truly the Lord has given all the land into our hands.

Chapter 4
began as God instructed Joshua to inform the elders of each tribe. They were commanded to take a stone out of the dried up Jordan and keep as a memorial. These leaders were supposed to take these stones as a memorial to their children as a sign.

lessons
We must change if we want to go with God. The stones out of the Jordan marked the movements of God among His people. They testified of the willingness of a people to leave what they had known in order to go with God, to face challenges to their faith, to step into the water, to believe in what they could not see.

Chapter 5
began with the kings of the Amorites and Canaanites. They heard that the Lord dried up the waters of the Jordan for the children of Israel. They knew they were toast then, their hearts melted.

lessons
When our spiritual enemies see that we are trusting in God and are willing to step out in obedient faith – even when it seems crazy – they instantly lose confidence in their battle against us.

Chapter 6
After the Israelites crossed the Jordan River into the promised land, the Lord instructed them to destroy the city of Jericho and everything in it. An Israelite named Achan took items from Jericho that were forbidden. As a result, the Israelites were defeated when they tried to destroy the city of Ai.

lessons
Israel had an unorthodox beginning in its conquest of Canaan. Instead of relying on their military might and tactics, the Lord instructed Joshua to have the people walk around the city of Jericho. As a result, their victory clearly demonstrated that God was the One who won the battle, not them
