Ifeoluwa Summary of Genesis 35-37

Genesis 35

God told Jacob to go to Bethel . Then he instructed Jacob to build an altar for him.
Jacob asked his household to set surrendered all their foreign gods and they did that with their ear rings .
God miraculously gave Jacob and his people a secure passage on their journey.
At padan Aram God appeared to Jacob again . Here he changed his name from Jacob to Israel.
After leaving Bethel , a series of events happened. Rachel, Jacob's beloved wife died immediately after childbirth.
Followed was the record of Jacob's twelve sons.
At the end of the chapter ,Isaac died after living for 180 years . He was buried by his sons Esau and Jacob.

The lessons from the chapter
It is only when we surrender all of our heart to God that we will experience his great encounter.
Living a consecrated life is the pathway to divine touch of God in our lives.

Genesis 36
The chapter started with the records of Esau's family . His wives are Canaanites .He had a large livestocks like his brother Jacob.
He moved and settled in the hill country of
Seir.
He is the father of the Edomites .
Ever before there were kings in Israel . Esau's children had began having chiefs and kings. Eleven chiefs descended from him.

Lessons learned.
I learned from the chapter that God wanted to have a relationship with us . Not walking in the will of God doesn't mean we will not prosper in our ways but we will not enjoy the presence and the leading of God.

Genesis 37
The chapter began with Joseph"s story .
Jacob lives in the land of Canaan .
Jacob loved Joseph more than the other children of his because he has him in his old age. Then he made him a robe of many colours.
Knowing that he was more beloved , joseph's brothers hated him.
Joseph had two different dreams where his family bowed down to him. Firstly he dreamt of his brothers' shieves bowing to his.
Also the sun ,noon and eleven stars bows to him
Then on this day. Jacob sent his son Joseph to check on his brothers at the field in Shechem . The mission was to know how they are faring with the flocks and return with the news.
Meanwhile when Joseph found his brothers at Dothan. While he was approaching they saw and planned to kill him.
Reuben the eldest was against the plan so he advised that they throw him into a pit. This was a plan to rescue his brother from the rest of them.
Later Joseph was sold to some ismaelite traders.
Reuben was sad when he didn't see Joseph in the pit afterwards.
Then they took joseph's clothe , soaked it in blood . They went home and lied to their father that Joseph was killed by a wild animal.
Their father was so heartbroken and he wept for Joseph his beloved son.

Lessons to learn
1: As a parent it is not good to show favouritism . Loving every child equally allows love and peace in the home.
