Leviticus

Chp 11
Begins with instructions on which land animals the Israelites were allowed to eat and those that were forbidden. He indicated they were allowed to eat any animal that had a divided hoof and that chewed its cud.  For example, the sheep, cattle, goats were allowable but the pigs, rabbits and camels were prohibited because they were considered unclean. He also gave instructions on the creatures that lives in the seas.  Those with have fins and scales were allow but those without were considered unclean.  The birds of the air were regarded as unclean and not to be eaten.

Lesson learned
Once again God continues to give very detailed instructions about food consumptions—what should be eaten and what should not which is something we should take into consideration even today.   Because it has been proven over time that many diseases today are connected to what we eat--- our diet.

Chp 12
It speaks about how a woman should handle the purification time after giving birth.  This specific time period she is considered “unclean” and is not allowed to participate in any holy rituals or enter any temples.  The length of time depended upon the sex of the baby—whether boy or girl. Instructions are also given that on the eight day he is to be circumcised.
Chp 13
God’s laws for the Israelites concerning leprosy. It was indicated that if anyone was suspected of having leprosy, they were to be brought to Aaron or his son for further examination. It usually started by the appearance of a rash of a shiny spot o their skin.  The priest would examine the person to determine if they were infected and if so, would consider them “unclean”. If leprosy was detected, the person would be isolated in order to prevent the disease from spreading among the population.
