Chp 4

Moses is speaking to the new generation that is getting ready to go into the promised land.  Once again, he is reminding them of the commandments given. He indicates that they are do not add or subtract from what he is saying but to keep the laws and decrees which
the Lord has given them. They are reminded of what happened at Baal Peor that those that followed Baal were destroyed but those who held fast to the Lord were still alive. He reminds them not to forget the things that they have seen or allow them to fade from their hearts.  They were instructed to teach their children and their grandchildren these laws and decrees. They are reminded of the day they stood before the Lord at Horeh and He spoke to them from a blazing fire.  Warnings are given again against idolatry, that they were not to make any idol or any image of any shape.  They were not be enticed about the sun. the moon or the stars into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord God had apportioned to all the nations under heaven.  They were reminded not forget the covenant that the Lord had made with them, reminded that God is a consuming fire, a jealous God that they were to worship God and God alone.

.   Moses warns them that if they became corrupt while living in the land God gave them. That the heaven and earth would be called as witnesses against them that they would quickly perish from the land. They would no longer live there but would be destroyed and scattered among other nations where they would worship man-made gods which could not see or hear.   However, if they were to repent and seek the Lord thy God, they would find Him, if they were to seek Him with all of their heart and their soul because God is a merciful God.

Moses indicates that he would not be crossing over the Jordan with them because he would die in the land but they were to always keep God’s laws and decrees in their hearts and worship the Lord only.

In chapter 5 Moses summons all the Israelites warning them to take heed to the decrees and laws, to learn them and follow them. They are remined of the covenant that the Lord made with them at Horeb. Moses continues explaining the Ten commandments the first commandment the Lord states “ I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.  You shall have no other gods before me.” He reminds them that he is the one that brought them out of Egypt, out of slavery and that they were to have no other gods before Him because doing so would anger Him. He indicates that these laws should be impressed upon their children and their children’s children.

In chapter 6 Moses gives the most important commandant to the Israelites, to love God with all their heart, soul and strength.

Lessons learn

As it is with these previous chapters that Moses gave warnings and reminders to the Israelites, so it is with us today --- to be reminded to take heed to His laws and decrees, obey  His commandments, continue to teach them to the next generation and most of all love the Lord God with all of our heart, soul and strength.  Because when we love Him, it’s easy to obey Him and that comes by speding time in His Word and in His Presence
