Hey you wild women!

My next guest is the founder and CEO of Startup Parent and the host of The Startup Parent Podcast, an award-winning podcast featuring women in entrepreneurship, business, and parenting. Sarah Peck runs The Wise Women’s Council, an annual leadership program for women to come together honestly while navigating the challenges of working and parenting.

In 2011, Sarah began consulting with Y-Combinator backed startups, and launched her own consultancy in 2013. Today, her company focuses on the narratives we share (and the ones we don’t share) about work, parenting, and motherhood.

Sarah is also a 20-time NCAA All-American swimmer and has successfully swum the  Escape from Alcatraz nine separate times, once doing the swim totally naked as a way to raise $33k for charity. Her writing and work has been featured on Forbes, Inc, Fast Company, The New York Times, Harvard Business Review, and more. She lives in New York City with her family.

In this episode you will learn about:

Sarah’s swimming background and how it has impacted her life today How we should be questioning what society deems as ‘normal’ for parents Sarah’s values as a parent and how they challenge traditional ideas What she considers to be her biggest business mistake How she gets over the voice in her head that says ‘it’s not possible’ How Sarah feels about cancel culture How society and the media encourages the conversations around cancel culture What inspired her to start her company Why she changed the name of her company Sarah’s views on how the workplace should adapt to support pregnant and nursing mothers Why employers should be more supportive of women who take maternity leave How policy and leadership affect public relations  What she wishes people understood about parenting Why she feels we are all responsible for each other and our children, even if you don’t have children of your own Why she feels ‘good enough’ is good enough when it comes to parenting How she integrates time with her family and her business
