I’ll Have Another Episode 17: Vicki Bohlsen

 Meet Vicky:

Vicki Bohlsen had a successful career with some major brands as an employee and a freelancer before she began one of Indianapolis’ largest full-service integrated communications firms. Her more than 30 years’ experience in corporate and nonprofit public relations and strategic marketing has afforded her the chance to work with countless organizations to ensure that their communications efforts further their organizational goals.

Vicki started Bohlsen Group in 2010 and led its growth from three employees to more than 35 in just five years with events and entertainment, nonprofit, corporate, author publicity services and creative services divisions.

In addition to growing the business side of the company, Vicki makes supporting nonprofits and community organizations a priority at Bohlsen Group. In 2014, the company donated nearly 5 percent of its gross revenue to nonprofit organizations.

Vicki also places special importance on the staff’s health and wellness. Not only did she spearhead Bohlsen Group’s application to become B Corp-certified in 2015, but she provides opportunities for the staff to participate in socially and environmentally responsible activities.

In this Episode Vicky talks about what her career path looked like leading up to starting her own Firm. I loved this conversation so much-Vicky talks about how she handled working part time when her kids where little and when the timing was right, she took a leap and started her own firm. It was great to hear how she juggled things as a mother to young children and what the transition to starting her own business looked like.

I dropped my kids off at the Y downtown and walked over to her beautiful office where we sat down at a table and had a conversation that felt so natural and comfortable, I felt like I was talking to someone I’d known for years. I was a little intimidated walking in to talk to this successful and super busy woman on a Monday morning woman as soon as we shook hands that went away. I’m having so much fun connecting and getting to know so many amazing people through this podcast. Thank you Vicky and thank you Trena Roudebush for introducing us!
