R.J. Enga was born in Germany, where his father was stationed in the U.S. Air Force, and he speaks fluent German and played a lot of soccer in his early years. When his family moved to Colorado Springs, he went to an Air Force hockey game, fell in love with hockey and started playing. He went on to play soccer, hockey and baseball for Culver Military Academy (Ind.) before playing hockey for Colorado College (1991-95) and then professionally until 2007. Enga coached in the NAHL for the Topeka Roadrunners and in the USHL for the Chicago Steel before being an assistant coach at Colorado College from 2014-21.
