This week, the footballing world mourns the passing of the greatest player in the history of the game, Diego Maradona.
But closer to home, this week also marked the passing of a quiet footballing hero of this country, Maurice Setters. If you said ‘who?’, exactly.
A name that is perhaps largely unknown now, Setters was a fundamental part of the Jack Charlton era, as assistant manager to Ireland’s footballing glory years. As a player, he played under the brilliant Sir Matt Busby at Manchester United.  It ended in tragedy with Setters and the FAI, but his contribution to Irish football in the late 80s and early 90s should never be forgotten.
