Hidden Histories: Field of Dreams in Finglas

It’s been a week where aviation is in the news, mostly for the wrong reasons.
There has been the clash between Ryanair and the government, an ongoing void in policy, and more questions around the future of jobs in the industry.
But here’s the thing about the story of Irish commercial aviation - you’d be forgiven for thinking aviation in Ireland began with Aer Lingus.
Instead, it all starts in a field of dreams in Finglas, where one Irish businessman and automobile enthusiast dared to take to the skies.
The name was Iona National Airways but it wasn’t quite a national airline, so much as a sign of what was to come.
