This week the rather unlikely terms ‘Castle Catholic’ and ‘West Brit’ trended on Twitter.
That two terms associated with the beginning of the twentieth century were ‘back’ sparked real debate - e.g. are they sectarian in nature?
Both terms have been around surprisingly longer than one might expect, and looking at them allows us to examine language in a broader sense in Irish discourse but how do some pejorative terms like 'Jackeen' remain a part of our lexicon while others fade?
