Jane Kinney Meyers, a professional librarian with nearly 40 years’ experience working with scores of libraries throughout the continent of Africa, is the founder and president of Lubuto Library Partners.

Jane developed a network of research libraries and pioneered technology applications in the southern African country Malawi from the mid- to late 1980s on a World Bank project.  She was also married in Malawi and gave birth to her first child there.  During her second extended time living in Africa, in Zambia, she became involved with that country’s growing number of street children.  On her return to the U.S. in 2001, she developed the concept, approach and organization of Lubuto.  Jane has received widespread international acclaim and support for this work.

In this episode, we discuss:

What is better than money to provide help it’s not about throwing money at someone to help How a good library responds to the needs of its community Similarities between nonprofits and for profit businesses How to support nonprofits besides donating money Using leadership skills in the nonprofit world Meeting challenges during a pandemic
