Your Heard Tell Show for Friday, September 1st, is turning down the noise of the news cycle and getting to the information we need to discern our times by talking about the latest, and harshest, sentences for those charged with the most serious crimes related to January 6th rioting at the US Capitol, and how when you turn down the noise the justice system is not only parsing out what happened, but is working. James Czerniawski returns to Heard Tell to talk the hype, hyperbole, and habits forming around AI, both in the discourse and in congress. James helps us understand what AI is, and isn't, and why that definition and understanding is essential before trying to regulate this growing industry and important in addressing fears and concerns folks have. James also talks about the Biden Administration's "Executive Order on Addressing United States Investments in Certain National Security Technologies and Products in Countries of Concern" which is really aimed directly at China, and rehashed some arguments from the TikTok debate. Then, host Andrew talks about the online trend of claiming the "good old days" were better than now, except they weren't when you actually think about it and look at the data. Garion Frankel returns to the program to talk about the Hispanic POV of the recent SCOTUS ruling on affirmative action and college/university admittance, how Texas has been handling higher ed without AA for two decades, dealing with problems of discrimination, and is the ruling and reaction matching what is actually going to happen going forward. We end the program with a class action lawsuit that claims Burger King is telling whoppers over their burgers, at least in their advertising and menu pictures.
