Acquiring new habits is not a complicated process. One way in which voluntary behaviour or deliberative behaviour becomes habitual is by tying it in with other action. So they become associated together with other things that you do, and as a consequence they become elicited by those other routines. Like in the evening you take your clothes off and you brush your teeth, a sort of bedtime routine or something like that, so you have the two sequences of behaviour that may become linked and that could be a useful thing.
