#AskDrJohWatts

Different questions related to baldness, hair grafts, hair loss, hair transplant procedures and medical treatments for hair loss are being raised by patients now and then, including the followers of Dr John Watts, who keep flooding his series of hugely popular educational videos on his popular YouTube channel with queries related to different hair issues.

In this video session, Hyderabad’s noted dermatologist & trichologist and one of the Best Hair Transplant Surgeons in Hyderabad, Dr John Watts answers a select question related to the side effects of using an unsterilized derma roller in the saloon or a hair clinic. He also addresses queries on the ideal time to use hair oil after a hair transplant surgery. Dr John has performed over 2000+ hair transplant surgeries successfully.

Phani Senapati asks: Sir, I underwent a hair transplant procedure five months ago and I had good hair growth on the front. However, my crown area had poor hair growth and I opted for PRP. I undertook 8 sessions of PRP. Yet, there was no result. Please suggest.

In response to the above queries by Phani Senapati, Dr John Watts explained that it is fundamentally wrong to compare the results obtained through hair transplant procedures with PRP therapy as both are different techniques.

“If you compare PRP results with hair transplant results, you will find that the results with PRP are slow and less. However, if you are using medication along with PRP, you can get comparatively little better results,” explained Dr John Watts, while expressing doubt if Phani Senapati was using hair medication.

In case he was using hair medication along with PRP but still, there was no proper growth on the crown region, Dr John Watts suggested he opt for a second hair transplant on the crown region in such a scenario for enhanced growth.

“This could be the only alternative option as PRP along with medication cannot help much if the hair on the crown area has extensively thinned. No medication or PRP can bring back long and dense terminal hair without a hair transplant procedure on the crown area,” informed Dr John Watts.

Nagarjuna Korlapati asks: Sir, I have been using Minoxidil but off late I am experiencing a headache. Please explain what I should do.

In response to the above query by Nagarjuna Korlapati, Dr John Watts explained that it is normal if one experiences a headache lasting for one to two minutes as the symptom is self-limiting and diminishes on its own.

However, Dr John Watts warned him to take it seriously if, for an entire day, one experiences a headache or notices any reddish inflammation on the scalp after using Minoxidil.

“You should immediately stop using Minoxidil in such a scenario and consult your emergency physician. Later, you must consult your dermatologist and opt for aqueous based Minoxidil option,” advised Dr John Watts.

In case even aqueous-based Minoxidil does not help and the same symptoms continue, he suggested the use of Redensyl or Procapil-based alternative formulations for hair growth.
