Today I am joined by by father and son duo, Douglas and David Kenrick to talk about their book Solving Modern Problems With a Stone-Age Brain: Human Evolution and the Seven Fundamental Motives. Doug is a Professor at Arizona State University, author and his books integrate social psychology, evolutionary biology, anthropology, and economics. Dave is the Psychology Program Manager at Arizona State University.

There is no denying that the world is a challenging place and it might surprise you to know that whilst we have evolved as human beings, the actual hardwiring which governs our behaviour, emotions, how we see the world, along with threats, opportunities and stuff that makes us feel good hasn’t. Which is why our operating system struggles from time to time.

Expect to hear:

How small scale societies made it far simpler for people to get their seven basic needs metThe difference between self actualisation and living a meaningful lifeWhy caring for others and strong relationships are central to meaningHow not everything that is natural is necessarily good for you or society
