GUELPH POLITICAST #193 - Election Night (Abridged)

Monday was Election Night, and the end of a long campaign that was only 40 days long, but was a tough-fought slugfest that took no prisoners on the hustings, or in the radio booths, of the nation. It's much to the relief of a nation that it's over (for now!), but there was some great stories and insights on CFRU on Election Night that demand to be preserved.

From 7 pm to midnight on Monday night Scotty Hertz, Christopher Currie and I were live to air with all the results from coast-to-coast-to-coast. There were a lot of surprises, and some not-so-surprising developments; a lot of bizarre asides, and some interesting side notes along with way as we reached the inevitable conclusion that this is a Liberal minority government, and that's going to have all sorts of implications in the weeks and months to come.

On Monday night though, it was all about the vote. Aside from some of the analysis of who won and who lost, you will also hear a discussion about the history of the Communist Party in Guelph, a bit from when Juanita Burnett, the Communist Party candidate herself, stopped by the studio, and you’ll also hear my appearance on the national coverage out of CKCU community radio in Carleton, when I talked to hosts Brendan McLoughlin (co-host of The Filibuster) and Luke Smith (CanQueer: Canada’s LGBT Community Talk Show) about the election from Guelph’s perspective.
