This episode of the Grim Drive Podcast, where we explore mental health through the lens of professional sports and athletes, takes a look at Chamique Holdsclaw + Adjustment.

Chamique Holdsclaw became a household name while at the University of Tennessee from 1995-1999.  Playing under famed coach Pat Summit, Chamique was an artist on the basketball court, showcasing a fluidity and ease of motion that made any viewer want to take up the game of basketball.  She used the game of basketball as her main coping mechanism to deal with the many transitions life was throwing at her.  While this helped her in the short term, long term she struggled to adjust as challenging and/or traumatic life events kept accumulating.  Opening up and getting help eventually allowed Chamique Holdsclaw to adjust in healthy ways, which has led her to find purpose after basketball, in the form of helping others and advocating for mental health awareness.

Adjustment is something we all go through.  Life throws challenges at each one of us, various forms of adversity or transitions that we have to go through at different points.  The tools and strategies we use in an attempt to adjust can make a big difference in how that adjustment process unfolds.  We discuss the topic of adjustment, as well as helpful information for how to make that process go more smoothly.
