God is near to the broken. He is drawn to the humble. He comforts those who mourn and stands with those who are oppressed and downtrodden. He rejoices when we reach the end our the rope and acknowledge that we are helpless without Him. It is then, and only then, that we surrender ourselves to Him and accept His will for us. This is the message of the first four beatitudes in Matthew 5.
