Adults are always asking little kids what they want to be when they grow up because they're looking for ideas." – Paula Poundstone

Isn't that the truth! I often tell people I am still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Who better to get ideas from than a little kid. I mean they are the perfect advisers for us to think about what we want to be or what we should be.

You know that kids don't have filters. They haven't been jaded by the the adult world telling them,

"You can't do that!"

"You're too old / too young for that!"

"You haven't been to college, you can't do that!" and so many of the negative thoughts that adults put on us.

Imagine this, Elon Musk sells PayPal to EBay for $1.5 Billion, netting $160 Million. He goes to a friends house for dinner and is playing with little son of his friends. Musk is playing with the kid and asks him, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

The kid with his youthful exuberance tells Musk,

"I want to build rocket ships and fly into outer space."

"Yea", Musk says, "Why?"

"Cuz, That'd be so cool!", the kid replies. The kid is standing holding a toy car.

"That's a cool car, does it go fast?" Musk asks the kid.

"It does, but it's out of gas. I wish it had batteries so it could drive without gas. If I was a super hero, I would have a car that ran on batteries and could go forever!"

Hmmm!, thought Elon Musk. When he went home after dinner he started thinking . . .

And now you know the rest of . . . . OK, it probably didn't happen like that. I am sure SpaceX and Tesla came about from other ideas, but hey, you never know. Maybe Elon Musk will come on the show and tell us if my imagination is, well, just, imaginary!

What did you want to be when you grew up? Did you become it? What do you want to do now? Are you doing what you want to do?

I know, I had the same problem. I realized a couple of years ago that I wasn't doing what I wanted to do. I started thinking about what I should be doing. I consulted some trusted advisers. My friends kids. No, just kidding. My mentor and mastermind group members and other friends. What made me happy? What was I doing when I was at the happiest point in my work life?

Do you have a idea? What are you doing about it, just thinking about it? Or, did you give up on it?

Be like a kid! Don't let the negative thoughts of your subconscious mind or your family and friends tell you can't do it.

Go out and Make your Idea a Reality.
