Kristen Karma started out as a band geek in school, before starting her own pop outfit in Vancouver. She’s always taken music seriously, but as a band leader she’s taken to threatening to punch out bandmates that show up to practice late.

As the conversation with Michael gets going they discuss the difference between collaboration and direction in the creative process, working hard to work with Lady Gaga, and reflecting positivity in your work.

There’s also an entrepreneurial aspect to being a creative professional, working for venues and engaging with your fans. Social media helps with a lot of that, but there’s also a case to be made for cultivating local fans.

Kristin leads the conversation to its end by talking about how she created persona and costuming her whole band as well as how she works crowds for maximum party atmosphere.
