October means Halloween for most. And of course, Halloween is all about things that scare us and go bump in the night. Yet, the tenth month of the year is also about breast cancer awareness – something that affects one in every eight U.S. women.
Christine Handy was diagnosed several years ago with Stage 2 breast cancer. Following an aggressive course of chemotherapy and a mastectomy, she beat the disease. She not only survived it, she thrived thanks to the unwavering support of several good girlfriends.
She provides a fictional account of her story in her book Walk Besides Me. Christine, Jean and I had a great discussion regarding confronting a devastating disease head-on and the power of friendship.
Book: Walk Beside Me
