Public policy in the United States directly affects the way in which businesses can and choose to operate in the country. The passing of California Proposition 22, a "ballot initiative in California on the November 3, 2020 state election which classified app-based drivers as independent contractors, instead of employees", has already started to demonstrate how workers and independent contractors are being negatively affected, in which businesses like Albertson's have fired their entire delivery staff in order to replace their full-time employees with independent drivers under the GrubHub app.
