The board of La Biennale di Venezia awarded Australian director and screenwriter Peter Weir, one of the “great directors of modern cinema”, with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. Weir’s illustrious career, spanning over four decades, has left an indelible mark on cinema, with iconic works such as “Dead Poets Society,” “The Truman Show,” and “Master & Commander” captivating audiences worldwide.

In response to this esteemed accolade, Peter Weir expressed, “The Venice International Film Festival and its Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement are part of the folklore of our craft. To be singled out as a recipient for a lifetimes work as a director is a considerable honour.”
