#025: Stranger Waffles!?!

With the coming of Halloween, we felt some nostalgia for Stranger Things. So this week, we are bringing you some Waffles that Eleven and Hop would be inspired by. We have now done french toast and pancakes so it seemed fitting that complete our final act with Belgian Waffles. With a surprisingly short list of ingredients and a waffle iron, you can make this amazing waffle recipe. We give you the tips and tricks to give you success and creativity in your kitchen.

 

Heit describes a fun run with his family to support The John Thiessen Children's Foundation. The run ends in a video game truck where Heit has an eventful runin with a brawler from the 90s. Levine dodges pumpkin picking and updates us with his family.  Big Mama's & Papa's Pizzeria, a franchise in SoCal makes a massive 20-square-foot pizza and inspire some good pizza discussion. We discuss a ranking of the best Frozen Pizza’s. We take a little walk down memory lane. Heit describes his first experience with upgrading a dish as a kid… because no-one should have cold syrup on their waffles.

 

We answer questions this week about what can be served with fried chicken & waffles and a low carb option for bolognese sauce.  Mike and I try out skype as an option for recording and we are still working through some audio issue. 6 ½  ounces all-purpose flour (1 1/3 cup; 185g) 1 ½  ounces powdered sugar (1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons; 45g) ½  teaspoon (2g) Diamond Crystal kosher salt; for table salt, use half as much by volume or use the same weight ½  teaspoon (3g) baking soda ½  teaspoon (2g) baking powder 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped (see note) 14 ounces cultured lowfat buttermilk (1 3/4 cup; 395g) (see note) 1 ½  ounces unsalted butter, melted (3 tablespoons; 40g) 2 large egg whites (about 2 1/2 ounces; 70g) 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract Maple syrup, for serving - the good stuff… buy the good stuff
