[Between seasons 3 and 4, First Case will be throwing it back to some of our exciting episodes from season 1!] How many times has it been said, "New grads need to work in Med-Surg prior to working in the OR."? While most nursing schools focus on Med-Surg during clinicals, there are many students who really feel called to the operating room. Sending them to Med-Surge first for "experience" doesn't give them specific OR experience, and delays their entry into the OR. Tune in as we discuss this issue today with Lindsey Joyce, MSN, RN, CNL, CNOR, CVOR nurse and coordinator for the Perioperative Nursing Elective at Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing in St. Louis, MO. Hear how Lindsey developed a perioperative nursing elective for her school of nursing, how it's benefitting new grads who want to work in surgery, and how ORs across the country have benefitted from this program as well. You don't want to miss this episode!
