If you have ever had a day where you were so busy, meeting to meeting, non-stop, fast forward to the end of the day and you ask “Did I really get anything done?” …if that is you, listen in on this interview with Geoff Woods from The One Thing. He discusses how can we become more accountable to ourselves and Time Blocking to reach our ultimate goal.

We need to learn to take control of our time…our most important resource. But most of us have not been taught how to.

Time Block is the act of scheduling time with yourself to do your most important work. We all know how to make and protect our important appointments like doctor appointments. But we have a very hard time scheduling time with ourselves and protecting it, turning off ALL distractions and interruptions.

When you look at the coming week, what are you big rock? What absolutely has to happen? When you set ONE goal that you need to get done and just focus on it, it will get done.

Identify what your ultimate goal is.

What do you need to accomplish in 5 years to accomplish your ultimate goal?

What do you need to accomplish in 1 year to accomplish your 5 year goal?

What do you need to accomplish this month to be on track for your 1 year goal?

What do you need to accomplish this week to be on track for this month’s goal?

What do you need to accomplish today to be on track for this week’s goal?

Download your GPS form (Goals, Priorities and Strategies) a system used by Keller Williams to help you set your life goal and work your priorities.

You have to have one clear goal for the year. It’s encouraged not to make your goal a financial goal.

One goal, 3 priorities, 5 strategies. That’s your ONE thing.

“When you chase 2 rabbits you end up catching none of them.”

Time Blocking

Think big, but start small. Go into a place where you can be undisturbed and not get up to do anything. No bathroom break, no coffee break, no answering calls, no distractions…nothing else. Start with 5 minutes, or 15 minutes and expand from there. Get your most important stuff done first, then do other things.

Start time blocking in one area first. Once, you’ve mastered one thing, you can add others. Start with business for example, and then family, working out, meditation, hobbies, etc.

It takes on average 66 days to form a solid habit. So we could form a total of 5 solid habits in one year. Most people don’t form them because they take on too many going at one time….so again, let’s start with our ONE thing!
