In this episode, Therese talks about the concept of “differentiation.” She pulls from her therapist days and explains what it means to hold onto yourself in the face of another person’s experience. What happens quite often is that we take on the feelings of others. So, if there is conflict, tension, potential for anger, etc., it’s easy to want to manage that or control the other person’s response.

But at what cost?

For example, if you are a business owner and have a desire to raise your rates, projecting onto your client how much they will be upset or feel hurt by this will make you crazy and likely prevent you from making more money because you envision the conversation being challenging. The “work” is to be able to communicate assertively, hold onto yourself, and NOT worry about how someone else will respond to you.

Therese talks about leadership and how to strengthen your ability to take charge, say what you feel, and move forward, knowing your truth, versus backing down so as not to ruffle feathers. There are tools that will allow you to be self-regulated, so that you can be your powerful self. Knowing these will allow you to stay feel in control of yourself, be even more sovereign, and avoid a boatload of overwhelm, or other emotionally charged states.

BTW- this isn’t just a “therapy” concept! It has to do with all the personal interactions you have in business and life. You will hear the path out of getting too activated emotionally.
