Dr. Javier Jaimes is a virologist who is studying the novel coronavirus called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2). He is trying to understand how this virus causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in humans.
Dr. Jaimes works in the lab of Dr. Gary Whittaker's at Cornell University. Dr. Whittaker is a world-renown coronavirus researcher. The Whittaker lab is currently one of the few research labs that have remained open in the Ithaca campus.
