Language of Grace

1 Corinthians 5:9-11

Synopsis: Language sometimes forms a barrier to communication even when people seem to be using the same words.  That is certainly the case when believers try to communicate the Gospel to those who have never experienced it. 

        Paul called believers to a high standard of relationship that was not to be confused with standard of relationship with unbelievers (1 Corinthians 5:9-11).  In making that distinction he admonished believers to reach out to unbelievers even though they did not live by those higher standards as a means of winning them to faith.

        This brings up a good question.  How does a believer communicate the Gospel to an unbeliever when he or she does not know the language of grace.  Believers use the language of grace all the time.  Other believers understand them perfectly, because they have a common experience.  We fill our worship with songs of praise that have words which communicate on multiple levels. 

        Sometimes believers are mocked because of the choice of words that they use to communicate the meaning of grace.  Those outside of faith often don’t appreciate their sincere attempt to communicate with words their experience of grace.
