Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast and today I am joined by an incredibly smart woman.

Dr Majeda Awawdeh, the founder of Global Education Academy, has completed a PhD degree at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Mathematics Education and Cognitive Load Theory. She also holds a Bachelor Degree in Mathematics and Computer Sciences, a Bachelor degree in Education, and a Masters Degree (with high distinction) in Mathematics Education.

She is also the author of an incredible book I highly recommend called "Who cares about Maths anyway?, Why Schools are Failing to Teach – An Analytical Overview of the Education System". I read this and learnt so much in such a short time.

It is really awesome to have someone like this come on the show who can back up so much of what I talk about with years of research, data and statistics, I also love that she was a teacher and still is, because it helps get across my point, that it isn't the teacher's fault or the school's fault, it is the education system as a whole which is failing to teach.

If you agree with my beliefs about the school system or want to find out more about it then this is a great episode for you...

Today we cover:

Her journey as a math teacherHer transition from turkey to Australia and how different the education system isWhy giving students a "C" or an average mark is pointlessWhat school is failing to teach usWhy teachers are so important and why the standard for teaching is too lowHow people struggle to think for themselvesImportance of creativity

And so much more.
