Depression is no laughing matter. On average, about 18 million adults in the United States are affected by it every year. It’s also the cause of over 40,000 suicides yearly and the leading cause of disabilities in adults. D. Neil Elliott knows all about the effects of depression. He felt so miserable and so alone that he sat down at his kitchen table and crafted his suicide note, delaying taking action until after he could say his goodbyes to family and friends.
