Welcome back to PART 2 of our Danity Kane “Danity Kane” journey. In this episode, Angie (@poetrysoul3) and Steffi (@inn_mho) break down the era!

Before we get into the meat of the episode, we read some of your listener feedback and have a mini DIVA HEADLINE’S segment. We briefly discuss the various summer concert performances from our favorite divas like Diana Ross, TLC, Melanie C, and Mariah’s appearance at the BET Awards - how does Latto NOT know Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy”!?! We then share our thoughts on Janet Jackson’s amazing Essence Festival performance and rant about Lena Waithe’s newest Netflix movie aka the unofficial Whitney Houston & Robyn Crawford movie, “Beauty”. Lena, you could’ve just made an AO3 account, girl!

In our Era Breakdown episodes, we give context and explain where Diva Dailies was at this point in their career and why they made this particular album. We then talk about the traumatic experience of Making the Band, how the franchise/ Diddy/ Bad Boy Records ultimately failed them, and how Danity Kane’s story was influenced by the evolving music industry and birth of reality television. Of course, we get into our favorite music videos & live performances, and end the episode reflecting on the ultimate impact that Danity Kane’s “Danity Kane” had in music and the girl group pantheon.

Again, this is part 2 of the conversation! So make sure you listen to part 1 where we discussed the album track by track.

We hope you enjoyed our Danity Kane’s “Danity Kane” journey!

Album Info: Danity Kane is the debut album by American girl group Danity Kane. It was first released by Bad Boy and Atlantic Records on August 22, 2006 in the United States. After winning the third installment of the reality talent contest Making the Band in late 2005, Sean "Diddy" Combs and Bad Boy vice president Harve Pierre consulted a wide range of high-profile hip-hop and R&B musicians to work with the quintet, including Timbaland, Danja, Bryan Michael Cox, Rami, Ryan Leslie, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, Scott Storch, and Jim Jonsin, as well as Bad Boy inhouse producers Mario Winans and D-Dot. Recorded within five weeks, the making of the album was tracked by the second half of Making the Band 3's third season.
