With the Boston Red Sox down 0-3 to the New York Yankees in the 2004 ALCS, even the most fanatical fan in Southie wouldn't have predicted a comeback. Years and years of frustration, defeat, and ineffectiveness appeared to be nine innings away from adding another chapter to this storied franchise's futility.

But the unlikely happened. Over the course of four games, the trajectory of two prestigious sports franchises was altered.

The improbable championship began on October 17, 2004, when the Red Sox faced another elimination game against the rival Yankees. After losing 19-8 a day earlier, the writing seemed to be on the wall for Boston. The Yankees were on the verge of their 7th World Series appearance in nine years while the Red Sox were about to be eliminated in the ALCS at the hands of Joe Torre, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Bernie Williams for the third time in six years.

On this episode of Distant Replay, we go back to that cool October night and rewatch FOX's broadcast of this ALCS game 4. It's as unlikely now as it was then and we'll take you through it all.
