How to get started in personal development - 4 tips

Welcome to the DM podcast episode one tips to get started in personal development

Tip one

don’t overwhelm yourself.

The world is a busy and noisy place where so much good and bad information has oversaturated us with countless opinions, facts and ideas. Overstimulating yourself by trying to do too much at once leaves beginners confused feeling lost not knowing how where or when to start. Which results in most people giving up before they even tried.

We have access to amazingly helpful information in the world, all we’re saying is don’t try to do everything at once. Patience is key, but patience does not mean no action or just waiting for something to happen. We can’t jump to the top of a mountain summit in one leap. We have to start step by step.

First step is self awareness and realization. Start with your reason why? What is it you want to improve about yourself and ask yourself why. It can possibly be something you don’t necessarily want to change, but you know that thing negatively effects someone you love. We have to put our pride and ego aside and realize what it is we have to improve on and why. If you are having trouble with this step, you can ask yourself “what kind of person do I want to become and what is the best life I want to live?” That can help narrow down who you want to be and what you want to do in life

Or you can ask the closest person to you for help and to be brutally honest with you.

BUT do not get angry or defensive with what they say. Go to that person with the intention to listen and truly believe that no matter what they say, they say it to help you and that it comes from a place of love. It may be said in a straight forward and blunt way, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t come from a place of love. There is a difference between verbal abuse and constructive criticism. That is why it is good to go to a loving positive supporter of yours. Remember to go to them with the intent to learn more about yourself through the eyes of a loving supporter of yours.

Tip 2)

Work backwards to go further

When you when you find out who you want to be, the life you would love to live and the things you wish to improve personally, think of the positive end result and work backwards.

By doing this we help to set a target in our minds and hearts. If we shoot blindly we hit nothing. But if we are clear and focused on what we want, our thoughts and actions help guide us closer to that result we want. The clearer the focus on the target the closer we get.

Talk about the backboard basketball story

Clear focus can be like an archer. We first pull back the arrow, and by focusing clearly on the bullseye we go further than firing blindly

Tip 3

Be adaptable

Life can be extremely unpredictable at times. There’s a saying, when man makes a plan God laughs. We believe that everyone has the right to believe whatever they want whether it’s God the universe unicorns anything. We personally believe that God’s vision for us is always greater than our plan.

This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t make a plan for that amazing life that we strive for. It also doesn’t mean we should sit and wait for God to hand us our amazing life on a SilverPlatter. We were already blessed with life and now it’s time to make it the best we possibly can. We need to put positive action in our lives In order to make it better. However, we need to be able to adapt to life’s changes so that way if something doesn’t go according to plan, we don’t completely crumble and self destruct. There’s also a saying,  God helps those who help themselves. the more positive action we do in life, the higher the reward we receive.

Tip 4

Patience

In this day and age we all want something now instantly. There are many things that offer that service and yet there are many people who are still unsatisfied. There’s no such thing as six minute abs. Many people will do almost anything for instant gratification which leads them to bad habits but a lot of times that instant gratification doesn’t last. And it sometimes leaves us feeling worse than we did before.

Sometimes the more effort we put into things that positively effect us and others, the longer the gratification lasts. For example building a business from the ground up, working hard to get into a career the we love to do and don’t dread working at every day, or improving ourselves to grow into the person we always aspired to become. We need to remember that the amazing things which last the longest in life mainly are a result of long hours of consistent effort and hard work. Be patient enough to wait even years for your desired result, but hopeful enough to reach that result sooner than you planned.

That is it for this weeks episode of the DM podcast where we help you to improve and apply yourself to productively grow as a person to positively effect your life and the life’s of others around you. There are no shortcuts to greatness, remember to slow down and not overwhelm yourself, focus on your target clearly and work backwards to figure out the steps required to achieve your desired result, make a plan yet be adaptable to life’s changes so that you can still reach your goal. Remain patient and keep the faith.
